The Hope Of Glory: New Life, New Power, New Future

Wretched Man

Last Sunday, we looked at Romans 7 to explore the role of the law in the Christian life. Paul reminds followers of Jesus that they are united in His death and resurrection. In Christ, we have died to the law which once held us captive. Through Jesus' sacrifice, we have been released from the law and are now bound to Him. While God’s law is holy and good, it cannot bring life. The purpose of God’s law only reveals our sin. Through the law, our sinful nature was aroused to sin; sin is what enslaves us. Paul shows us that the law is not the solution to humanity’s depravity, but rather grace. The law cannot produce righteousness within us; we cannot find freedom through our own effort or find salvation by following rules. Only Jesus Christ can set us free from a legalistic way of life. Let us flee from legalism and return to the Gospel of grace to find righteousness and transformation by His spirit, for Christ has set us free.
