We concluded our sermon series on Revelation 1-5 last Sunday by looking at Revelation 5. Here we see a vision of the end intended to help suffering Christians persevere. Having seen a vision of God the creator previously, John’s vision is now centered on Jesus the victorious redeemer. John is given a glorious picture of heaven and a sealed scroll with God’s plan for the end: God’s final judgement of His enemies and salvation of His people. However, John initially weeps for there was no one found worthy to bring God’s plans to fulfillment. We then hear the good news that Jesus Christ is worthy and able to bring God’s purposes to final fulfillment. Jesus is worthy to open the scroll because of His sacrificial sin-bearing death. Jesus is the conquering Lion and the slain Lamb; the Savior and King. Jesus’ deathly defeat on the cross is His final victory. Jesus is the One who conquered at the cross and now sits at the throne wearing the mighty victor's crown. Having secured our future through His death and resurrection, Jesus is worthy of all worship from every creature, in every place, for all of time. Come join with the host of heaven and proclaim: worthy is the Lamb who was slain; blessing, honor, glory, and might forever and ever!
