The sixth sermon of our Romans series brought us through Romans 3:21-31. We saw how God’s righteousness comes through faith, not through the law or by performance in keeping the law. Promised by God even since the Old Testament, righteousness is available for all sinners - Jew and Gentile - only by faith in Jesus Christ. God makes us right with Himself only through the death of Jesus, for Christ’s death perfectly displays the righteousness of God. Jesus lived the perfect life, taking on the sin we deserve, redeeming us from slavery to sin, and absorbing the wrath of God. The gospel is God’s amazing gift of grace that humbles us, unites us, and transforms us. There is no other means in which we can earn God’s favor and escape God’s judgement. To be made right with God, we must respond in faith alone - to utterly trust, depend, and rely on the finished work of Jesus Christ.
