As we near the end of our Romans series, we looked through Romans 4:1-12 to see the inclusivity of God’s everlasting salvation plan, promised since the Old Testament and consistent throughout all time. Using the examples of Abraham and David, Paul helped his readers to see that God’s righteousness had always been granted by faith and not by works. Abraham was counted as righteousness not because he was circumcised, but because he trusted the promise-making and promise-keeping God. Even in David’s sin, God did not count sin against him, but granted David the gift of forgiveness and blessing. Paul shows us how the Old Testament was proof that God counted people righteous on His terms, apart from our works, deeds, or failures. God’s righteousness is for all people, uniting us as one family by the work of Jesus Christ. Having been justified and forgiven in Christ, let us humbly bring this message of good news to all.
