In the next sermon of our Revelation series, we looked through Revelation 4 to see the Holy God who reigns from heaven. Following John’s letters to the seven churches, our attention is now shifted to a vision of God’s throne - where judgement will be passed on all God’s enemies and where mercy will be shown for all God’s people. As John records the vision, he is only able to describe the appearance and likeness of the Holy God; painting a glorious picture of the Lord’s infinite worth and majestic holiness. God’s holiness and throne room is further emphasized by His presence and fullness of Spirit. The vision continues to show us that the Holy God is worshipped day and night without ceasing. As the church faces the pressures of persecution, false teaching, compromise, and complacency, we can only look to the Holy God who reigns from His throne in heaven. He alone has the glory, honor, and power to make things right. Knowing the eternal sovereign rule of the Holy God gives comfort for the assured justice to come, encouragement to endure our present sufferings, and a reason to worship the Lord for He alone is worthy.
