We continued in our sermon series looking through Matthew 6:19-34 to consider where our true treasure lies. Disciples of Jesus are challenged to treasure the right things; not earthly things that will not last, but heavenly treasures that are eternal and secure. Jesus’ teaching helps us to see the connection: what we treasure is where our hearts will be, it is what we truly chase after, and what we treasure is often what we worry about. Jesus also addresses the worry and anxiety caused by the pursuit of earthly treasures. Citizens of God’s kingdom are reminded that the kingdom of heaven is the treasure only worth pursuing, for our heavenly Father faithfully provides our every need. As followers of Jesus, come let us seek to live under His rule, to seek God’s kingdom as our true eternal treasure, to seek His righteousness by living a righteous life, and to trust the loving Father who takes care of everything we need.
