In the third sermon of our Christmas series, we looked through John 6:22-40 to see how Jesus came to give us true satisfaction. While Christmas is a time that tells us to be happy, our pursuit of happiness and satisfaction may often be quite fleeting and temporary. We find ourselves seeking satisfaction in the wrong places and in the things of this world instead of the Savior King Jesus. Although the apostle John does not record many miracles in his account, he intentionally records certain signs and discourses to explain who Jesus is and why He came. The passage follows after Jesus’ feeding of the five thousand, where Jesus abundantly provides for His people, satisfying their physical hunger. Yet even having eaten their fill, the crowd still chased after Jesus for more. The crowd sought Jesus for the wrong reasons; while Jesus came to give a greater and deeper lasting satisfaction. Jesus is the bread of life, God’s ultimate provision for His people. Though His death on the cross, Jesus gave up His life and flesh to take our punishment and to give eternal life. Jesus came to bring true satisfaction, not through all the earthly things, but in Himself. Come to Jesus to find freedom, lasting joy, forgiveness, and everlasting life.
