As we near the end of our Romans series, we were brought through Romans 8:18-30 to see how our present sufferings are not worth comparing to the future glory God has prepared for His people. As God’s children, suffering is presented as an unavoidable path, but its destination leading to unavoidable glory. And as followers of the Lord Jesus, we have a wonderful future to look forward to even though we face difficulties in this present life. Creation groans having been placed under the curse of humanity’s sin, longing for restoration within God’s promise of renewal. Believers groan - living in the tension of the ‘already and not yet’, eagerly awaiting for the redemption of their bodies sustained by the resurrection hope of Christ. And the Holy Spirit groans - interceding for us in our weakness and ensuring God’s purposes prevail. With certain and assured hope, God works all things - even suffering - for our good. Suffering will not have the last word, Jesus will return, and everything will be made new. Let us hold fast to this hope and look forward to the glory beyond all comparison.
