Appeal for Building Fund 2024

My name is Rev. Tim Nicholls, the Lead Pastor of Cross & Crown Church Penang. I am writing to you on behalf of our Elders & Deacons committee, to ask for your prayers and partnership asCross & Crown seeks to find a more permanent meeting place for our church activities.

1. About Cross & Crown Church Penang

Cross & Crown Church Penang is a Protestant Reformed Evangelical Church founded in 2019 and a member of the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship (NECF). Our mission is to proclaim the gospel of grace, making and building disciples, in Penang and among the nations, to the glory ofGod. God’s desire, and therefore the Church’s vision, is for the people of Penang and beyond to have, and to keep having, Jesus as Saviour and Lord. We profess the faith uniquely revealed int he Holy Scriptures and set forth in the historic creeds, which the Church is called upon to proclaim afresh in each generation. We are committed to the fundamental beliefs set forth in our Statement of Beliefs and organize our church life according to our Constitution, which maybe found here: https://bit.ly/cccpg-constitution-v1_1.

2. The Current Situation

Since February 2020, Cross & Crown has been meeting at the Multipurpose Hall (MPH) on theGround Floor of Livingston Tower, Jalan Argyll, Georgetown. This room, along with rooms forSunday School and Youth on Level 8, has been rented for three-hour blocks on Sunday mornings. The MPH has a maximum capacity of 130, but feels full with around 100 persons. These arrangements have served us well to this point, but we are increasingly feeling the need to move to a larger space, that is available to us not only on Sunday, but through the week.

Over the past year, our congregation size has continued to grow, with our average Sunday attendance now approximately 80+. With the growth of the congregation, has also come a growth in the church’s ministries, and an increasing need for a meeting space outside of Sundays.Currently, we have no office space for staff, and any additional training or meetings must be held either in someone’s house, or by renting space at one of our partner churches in Penang.

3. The Need

Our prayer and hope is to rent a larger space with a capacity of 150-200 to make room for future growth, with additional rooms for Sunday School, Youth and other ministries, and office space for our staff. We are estimating that the cost of rental will be approximately RM5-10k per month, depending on location and size, with additional funds of RM40k for initial renovation works. In order to make the move a reality we are seeking to raise an additional RM100k in 2024 in addition to our regular budget for ministry and operating expenses.

Whilst the financial position of Cross & Crown has improved to the point that we have (almost)reached self-sustainability for our regular expenses, we cannot currently afford the additionalRM100k required to move into a permanent space. It is for this reason we are writing to invite you to partner with us, by contributing to our Building Fund. It is our prayer that this may provide the seed income required for us to move forward, whilst the congregation continues to grow to the point that the rental may be paid for by the congregation itself. We pray that God in his grace, may use this dedicated space, for the further growth of Cross & Crown church and gospel witness in Penang.
